The list of candidates for an empty school board seat in Downers Grove Community High School District 99 has been winnowed to three names: Allyn Barnett, Clifford Grammich and Jenny Seddon.
A total of 10 applications were filed for an appointment to the board to fill a vacancy created by the April 30 resignation of former board member Robert Lemke.
Lemke cited his frustrations with board processes as his reason for leaving the board almost a year before his term was due to expire. He had been on the school board since 2003.
The three finalists for the post will be interviewed by the board in closed session May 24, said Faith Behr, district spokeswoman. Behr said a decision on which candidate to select for the appointment may be made that evening or deferred to a future date.
The board voted May 17 to do away with a board policy that requires that a replacement be named to the vacant seat within 30 days. Instead, the board agreed to make district policy consistent with state law, which allows for 45 days before an appointment must be made.
The position is due to expire April 4, 2011.
Behr said the following people applied for the post but were not selected as finalists: Jamila Bagash, Analiese Jacobs, Frank Laraia, George Swimmer, James Paul, Rick Pavinato and Samantha Wright.
